The 7th House – the 7th house belongs to partners, and life partners. It has ownership over your wife or husband, and long term business and work associates. Partnerships require sacrifices and patience. Hence, an individualistic and lone operator like Rahu, who rules matters of greed, intolerance and impulsiveness, feels out of place in this house. Rahu does not like to collaborate; he works alone and is unwilling to share his achievements, i.e. Amrita or the elixir of life, with anyone else. For the most part, this is not a desirable placement.
People with this placement have difficulty in matters of love and marriage. It is likely they have multiple affairs but are unable to find ‘the one.’ If married, this placement can create a void, discontentment, detachment or a ‘lack of completeness’ in marriage. One could have the tendency to constantly think about ‘what could have been’ rather than what is there. This placement can also create the yoga for an out of caste marriage, or marriage to someone with a significant age difference. Difficulty gaining alignment with one’s family and friends concerning the spouse is also a part of this position. While astrological precautions can be taken and rituals can be performed to curb limitations caused by this position, my first recommendation is to adopt a pious and sattvic lifestyle. Secondly, please consult an experienced astrologer or guru on matters of marriage. Thirdly, choose professions that do not require partnerships and long-term collaborations; Commission based income, contractual work and professional careers such as law, medicine and chartered accountancy, in which you do not have to make long term partners might be more suitable.
With that, let me quickly discuss one horoscope – that of Indian Film Industry Legend, Sri Amitabh Bachchan, who has this particular placement. The film industry, especially as an artist, is an individualistic career in which you are paid for the work you do – it is contractual. While Mr. Bachchan has achieved the pinnacle of success, his work has not necessarily required permanent long-term commitments. Sure, one has to work well with others even as an actor and Mr. Bachchan has collaborated with the same people many times, but that is not the same as long-term/ exclusive commitments or business partnerships, such as having a permanent business partner. Rahu is quick, wants to get the job done, and move on to another partner. Rahu in 7th can create a difference in outlook with partners if they are permanent, such as a dispute between the Chairman of a company and the Managing Director.
The 10th house – Perhaps, the most interesting placement for Rahu is the 10th house of profession, the house that has ownership of what you do, and your image in the world; the Karma Kshetra. To the external world, the Gods and Demigods, Rahu is perceived as a cunning troublemaker capable of deception at the highest levels. At the same time, he is known as highly ambitious and with unshakable determination. He will do anything to attain his prize, i.e. Amrita, or the elixir of life. Rahu is very happy in this house as it gives the native ‘motivation,’ not necessarily the ‘ability’ to succeed in the world. Oftentimes, motivation is everything. With Rahu in the 10th, the native will likely get a break in life. Because he consumes Amrita, which is figurative for one’s professional desire, the native can reasonably be assured of a unique opportunity. S/he is likely to progress faster than others by way of frequent promotions, job changes and even opportunistic behavior. The native can, and will also deflect tough competition, even from better-qualified and stronger individuals. But there is a catch – ultimately Rahu will fall. It is inevitable that Lord Vishnu will use his disk, or chakra, to slay him, and as such, this placement can create the yoga for an abrupt or unplanned career end. I have observed such an outcome in many horoscopes; the native will get an important career break, will feel ‘arrived’ in life, but all of a sudden lose her/his job when s/he is least expecting.
Amongst some famous names, Vijay Mallya, Margaret Thatcher, Saurav Ganguly and Al Gore are a few prominent people who have this placement. All of them, arguably, have something in common – an unplanned career end. Al Gore lost the US Presidential elections in a controversial manner and gave up politics, instead focusing on the environment – a very Ketu like approach (Rahu’s end implies Ketu’s beginning or the path of Dharma, or ‘giving back’ to society in the modern context). Margaret Thatcher felt betrayed when she had to resign as Prime Minister of the UK. Just like the Demigods betrayed Rahu, hidden enemies betrayed the Iron Lady. Vijay Mallya was flying high in the sky at one point, but ultimately lost his business and fled the country. Saurav Ganguly was dropped from the Indian Cricket team as Captain and was not able to make a successful comeback.
I will conclude by saying that Rahu in the 10th is not such a bad placement. I have seen many horoscopes in which Rahu has blessed the native with a good career. But given the way Rahu operates, it is likely that the native’s image will be that of an outsider who has stolen what does not belong to her/him. As such, I recommend that the native be wary of enemies. I also recommend giving back to society. As I have previously stated, please do not draw conclusions based on one placement. The complete horoscope has to be evaluated in totality by an experienced professional before any conclusions are drawn. I will now discuss two horoscopes with this placement.
Mahatma Gandhi
From the astrological chart, you can see that Rahu is placed in the 10th alongside the Moon, which is in its own house. Unlike Moon and Ketu, which is not a desirable placement, the conjunction of Moon and Rahu is not so bad. True to Rahu’s placement, Mahatma Gandhi was, and was perceived as a radical change maker, unshaken in his determination, immovable in his ideals, and an overpowering troublemaker for the British Raj. Freedom for the nation was the Amrita for Bapu. Just as Rahu plunged into unfamiliar territory belonging to the Gods, Mahatma Gandhi took the road less travelled, plunged into unknown grounds where not only freedom, but also lives were at stake. Beyond his Amrita, Mahatma Gandhi was not much interested in other pursuits. Once he achieved his goal, he turned to a peaceful life until his death. This is an example of a favorable Rahu in the 10th.
Donald Trump
Donald Trump has many favorable planetary combinations. Yogakaraka Mars that simultaneously owns both a Kendra and a Trikona is strongly placed in the ascendant. Jupiter is placed in the 2nd house of financial security from immediate resources; his Father was a wealthy real estate baron from whom he inherited the business. Mercury is strongly placed in its own sign in the 11th house, which is the house of ‘gains through external resources.’ Indeed, Trump has been very successful in generating gains from his network and friendships. Venus in the 12th creates the yoga for luxury and the finer things in life, which Trump is known for. And the conjunction of Saturn and Venus is also a very desirable combination, which I will talk about in a later blog.
But Trump was born with Rahu conjoint Sun in the 10th – during a full lunar eclipse. This placement is called Grahana yoga, a time during which the nodes i.e. Rahu and Ketu are at the peak of their power. Rahu Conjoint Sun implies a dark shadow cast upon the Sun and a total loss of light; mythologically, Rahu consumes the Sun. Trump will be perceived as someone who has taken away light. True to this placement, he is unstoppable, he does not and will not admit defeat, he has fought off and defeated his enemies, and he has consumed Amrita, the highest office in the Nation. He is immortal – he has even dodged a bullet. I am about to write something controversial. But before that, let me say that predictions are not facts. What I write is my opinion based only on my knowledge and findings of Astrology.
This planetary combination that Trump has creates the yoga for an unplanned or abrupt career end. He is at the peak of his power and he has consumed Amrita. Now is the time for renunciation. It is highly likely that he will not complete his full term in office. It is likely that he will resign or be impeached. At his peak, Rahu has enemies brewing around him. Rahu cannot be defeated and Rahu is immortal. But Rahu can be betrayed – betrayed by those around him. It is possible that his own are conspiring against him.
